Studio report from Tobben!
As we mentioned recently, the drums for “Evighetens dÃ¥rar II” are completed. This is what Grindmaster Fesh, aka Tobben, aka Tobias Gustafsson, aka Golden T, aka Golden Spider, aka Golden has to say about the session:
“- Well, there isn’t much to say other than I fuckn nailed all the songs last night. We had the studio reserved for tonight also, in case we’d face some serious fuck up – on the equipment or on yours truly. But obviously we didn’t need that and I’m very happy we did all the songs in one night. Since I had already put up the drumkit in the studio on Sunday night, Mats could do his shit with the mics etc during the day yesterday, so everything was all set and ready to blast when I arrived at the studio yesterday at 5 p.m. Well, not really. One of the local newspapers had sent sent a very pretty reporter and a photographer to the studio to do a thing on Big Balls Productions and their upcoming compilation CD, for the Friday issue. Apparently our ugly mugs will make the front page, haha… I’ll post a link to it here on Friday. So we got started at about 6 p.m. and were finished with everything around 10 p.m.
Mats (and his new companion Fredrik) did a great job in the studio. Very easy guys to work with, to say the least! It was the first time I used my Tama Superstar Hyper Drive drum kit, and we were all blown away by the sound! I’ve used them on a few live shows, and I knew they’d do just fine in the studio, but I didn’t expect them to sound that good! Holy fuck! But we’ll see how the TD mixing wizard, mr Swanö, will use the original sounds. Usually, he replaces the original sounds with samples (for good and for bad). That’s what the red trig mics on every drum is for.
Playingwise, I’m very happy with the result. Nothing really fancy, to be honest, but a very solid performance (if I might say it myself ) with a lot of balls – just like how we work in Torture Division. No song was any easier or harder than the others so everything worked very smooth.”
