Delia Derbyshire of BBC Radiophonic workshop was recently honored in Coventry with a street officially named after her.
Best known for her composition in Doctor Who, giving the theme, Delia was born on 5th May 1937 in Coventry. Shen began working at the local BBC Radiophonic Workshop around April of 1962 and made several major contributions to the world of radiophonic. She passed away in 2001 and in her memory, the community has decided to name a street in Stoke Heath of Coventry as Derbyshire Way.
This street was originally planned to be called Derbyshire Road but then the suggestion of using Way stuck as it has a dual meaning. Delia was always known to be a woman who spoke her heart, did things her way and for a very strong personality. It is only fitting that the commemoration of her contributions and achievements be called Way and not Road.
